8/16/15 - REGULAR HOMEWORK WILL START ON MONDAY, 8/24/15, AFTER THE 8/21/15 REQUESTED DEADLINE TO RECEIVE THE SURVEY FROM ALL PARENTS.
Parents, there is a fantastic website that I purchased for our language arts homework called Vocabulary/SpellingCity.com. SpellingCity.com uses computer learning games to make learning our Spelling & Vocabulary words fun and easy. The website address is https://www.spellingcity.com/MrsBrooks1/; please be sure to check it out. This site is also valuable for use in the classroom for whole group learning on the big screen. I purchase the premium version so that students have more activities to choose from, and so we would get the added benefit of SpellingCity.com saving the homework assignments and grading and logging the practice and test scores for parents and teacher to view. Please check to see what your child is doing on a regular basis as you would the paper homework, you'll be amazed at how easy it is to check their assignments and test scores.
The Language Arts Homework:
1. Learning games on the SpellingCity.com website with our weekly Spelling &
Vocabulary words.
Assignment Directions For The Spelling Words: Do 2 assignments per day Mon-Thur in the order given (the practice test is counted as 1 of the Thursday assignments). Spend at least 3 minutes on the "Teach Me" activity to be given credit, if not, then it will be deleted and will need to be redone in order to receive credit. If you score 100% on the Thursday Practice Test, then you're done! If you score less than 100%, then do more spelling word activities (games) under "Vocabulary and Spelling Lists" which is located at the bottom of the "My Teacher's Page", and take another practice test in that same location. Repeat this procedure until you get at least a 90% on the "Practice Test". NEVER take a "Test" at home, only a practice test. The "Tests" are to be taken ONLY at school, normally on Friday.

NOTE - If you do not have a computer, or internet access, then I will supply your child with paper assignments from Vocabulary/SpellingCity.com to be completed and turned in daily.
2. 20-30 Minutes of Daily AR Reading
Parents, there will be no reading log to fill out, sign, and return to school verifying that the reading was done at this time. I am leaving this responsibility up to you. I will assume that your child is doing their daily reading based on YOU making sure that they get it done. Your child should have 2 school library AR books at home after the school library opens (in about 1-2 weeks). When they finish one, they should bring it back to school the next day so they can exchange it for another book. It's good to have 2 books at home at all times in case they finish one of them before the 20-30 minutes of homework is met. Students will have plenty of books to read in class by using my classroom library, as well as their audiobooks and whole class reading. My classroom library books are NOT allowed to go home.

*NOTE - Spelling Tests will normally be done in the classroom on Fridays. ANY prior spelling word is fair game for a spelling pop-quiz, so reviewing prior spelling words would be a smart move. Reviewing past, as well as current, spelling words is easy to do on Vocabulary/SpellingCity.com since your child can play games with ALL prior lessons in order to review them by going to the bottom of the "My Teacher's Page" where it has the "Vocabulary and Spelling Lists" section that can be used for practice over and over, as well as the Practice Tests. In the "Assignments Due" area, the assignments can only be done once, as assigned.
