Educational Websites We Use Daily
XtraMath, SpellingCity, MobyMax, IKnowIt, StudyLadder, and ReadWorks are the educational websites that our class will be using on a daily basis (some every other day). Be sure to log in as a parent so that you can check your child’s progress and scores on a regular basis. Twice a week would be a good idea. You should check on the amount of work s/he has completed, the scores on practice sessions, and the grades on tests. Check to make sure that s/he is current on all assignments. If s/he is behind, then you could issue extra homework until s/he gets caught up.
“XtraMath” is for math facts practice only (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division).
“SpellingCity” is the website we will be using for our weekly spelling & vocabulary words that will be done in class. There will be a spelling test and a vocabulary test on the Spelling Words, but only a vocabulary test on the Vocabulary Words. There will be 20 Spelling Words, and usually about 8-12 Vocabulary Words each week. The weekly tests will be on Friday, so I have them take a practice test on Thursday so they can see what they still need to study before taking the test. You can have your child take a practice test at home anytime to see what they know, and to make sure they are ready for the Friday test.
“MobyMax” is a multi-subject website (they even break up language arts into many separate sections) that goes at your child’s pace and goes back to fill in any educational holes they may have in their learning. I pay for this website, so we get all the bells and whistles, and your child can use the complete version at home for extra practice.
“IKnowIt” is a math only website that is based on the CCSS (Common Core State Standards). It has step-by-step instructions with hints to help your child learn.
“StudyLadder” is a multi-subject website that kids really tend to like due to the way it interacts with them (applause on correct answers, etc.)
“ReadWorks” is a reading website that is owned by Renaissance, the company that owns AR and AM. The students read the assigned story lessons and answer questions about the reading.
